Seat heaters

Has anyone installed seat heaters? Looking to see if any problems were encountered along the way during the install. Seems straight forward enough and there's a you tube video.

I didn't install those but I did install a set of carbon fiber seat heaters in both seat bottoms and backs about a year ago. Just make sure you have a good power source and your wiring can move enough throughout the seat travel. On extremely cold days, it takes a few minutes to warm up, but they work well. Mine have a low and high switch. I just use high until they get warm then turn them off.

Technically difficult? No. Labor intensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

I instaleld some of the carbon fiber ones about 2 weeks ago. Removed the seats from the vehicle first. Ran the wiring under the carpet to the dash first. Then I removed the leather from the seat bottoms. Make sure you have a good pair of snips to cut the hog rings inside the seat. There are a TON of them on the bottom. Place the pad cutting out where you need to put hog rings and then put the leather back on.

The back of the seat is easier. Remove the arm rest first, then start pulling up the leather - the sides are velcro'd down and there are only a few hog clips that are easier to manage. Place the panel and then wrap everything up again, try and make the wiring fairly close to where the seat bottom one is.

Once you've got that in there, it's up to you where to put the switch. I actually drilled a 3/4 hole in the front part of the plastic shroud on the side of the seat and installed the button there - I really like how it looks there vs. on my dash.

We've not been getting above freezing around here lately so these heat seaters were totally worth getting. The ones I got of Amazon get VERY hot on the high setting and low is about perfect for a long drive.

I actually wired them up to my aux fuse box i have mounted under my dash with a 100 amp relay. That feeds from my front drivers side battery. This way all of my aux items are run to that and NOT my factory fuse box. I think my seat heaters wanted their own 20amp fuses each.

Installed my carbon heaters late summer. Pictures in my albums under seat heaters.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - wallz's Album: Seat Heaters

If you open the pictures I do have a short blurb explaining it. Added mine to cloth and they have been AWSOME to have and use. Went with a high and low, 2 setting switch. Switches mounted on side of seats near what the stock location is.

I removed the 4 bolts holding the seat to the track, and found that faster and easier than having to remove the torx bolts holding the tracks to the truck.
I also used zip ties to put the seat back together and everything has held up well. Still trying to get the full leather seats, but that is on hold, especially now with the new expy purchase.

I have both my seat heaters running into a single add-a-fuse with a 10A fuse. Modern carbon fiber seat heaters really shouldn't draw very much power at all.

True. But since I have another complete fuse box with 20 open fuse with as much as 100 amps of current draw, I like to wire all my addons to their own fuses. It makes for safer install in case there is any trouble. Also for better diagnostics. The aux fuse box also has ground terminals for every fuse opening. So everything that is wired up has both power and ground going to the same place.

did you use any adhesive to secure the heat pads? if not, they will bunch up over time.

They come with adhesive backings, and with the seat coverings are hogged in, there's not much of a chance of slippage... at least from my perspective. I'm doing them today while I'm still in FL. 85 today so I'm swillin' brewski's.

Tomorrow I'll get my snow chains fitted properly and make 2 chain assist boards.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't. You would just have to do some splicing of the connectors at the heaters themselves. They would probably even draw less current than the factory heaters.

Since I already have the wiring in place, I'm thinking it would be shame not to use the oem setup, however I think many of the aftermarket kits have a high and low setting, which the oem heaters do not.

My drivers side heater burnt the wires again. I am thinking of doing replacing both heater elements with these from Amazon are these the ones others have used. Here is a link
