Proper Tires for a 63 F100

I am looking for information about tires to but back on my 63 F100. It's a Standard pickup, flare side. I have the OEM rims and am having them refurbished. I'd like to put a radial black-wall tire back on but wanted to know what brand of tire was used to be period correct. The warranty plate indicates it was assembled in Dallas, TX in December of 1962 and has a DSO code of 62. It has a max gross weight of 5,000 pounds. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Bobby

There were several tire suppliers to Ford during this period. U.S. Royal, B. F. Goodrich, Firestone, Goodyear and General. Most were bias ply in a truck type tread. What size wheel do you have? F 100's came standard with 15" optional 16" and 17.5". Finding a period tread pattern is a challenge in radials. This is a F 100 with 6.50-16" tire.

Tripleframe, I have the OEM 15" innies. Bias ply would be great except that I don't want to spend several hundred dollars on the ones I found at Coker or Lucas. The truck is all stock but not a show piece. Just a nice driver that is mostly original. Thanks, Bobby

The tire size you want is 7.00-15. Most tire dealers will not stock it, because it is an old school size, but can be ordered. It is available in both bias and radial. Here is an example of a radial 7.00R-15 truck tire that has a good tread and side edge pattern.SL 717 Tire Hank May's Discount Tire & Auto

I really didn't know you could still get tires with the older sizing specification. I thought everything has been converted to the current method of buying tires. Me personally, I'm not sure I would want a stock tire back on my truck (when I finish it). They look so narrow now days, but I know you can't change it up too much without changing to a wider rim.
