ok this is the problem i have a fresh built engine with a new radiator and the old water pump. when i drive the car water will leak around the radiator cap (new cap) it doesnt explode and just empty like during a boil over it just intermittently released coolant. why? also when I shut it off you can hear odd sounds coming from the block and radiator.
whats causing this please help me I need to move the car today if at all possible it needs to move 50 miles. is 16 pounds enough for the cap? could there just be air in the system?
Sounds like combustion gasses are getting in the water jackets, meaning you have a head gasket leak or cracked head. Im in the middle of rebuilding an engine that had the same problem. Get a combustion leak tester from NAPA and check it. If this is the case no radiator cap will solve the problem.
hmm is that like a compression tester? I did pull one of the heads after the run in due to a stuck valve and i re used the gasket because it looked fine is this the problem?
and if it was the gaskets wouldnt the system make noise when the car is on? could this pressure in the system be caused by heat or a bad water pump or thermostat?
the car only ran for 20 minutes with them on i figured i was ok, how can I be sure this is the problem before i remove the heads for another time?
also while were here i have a sp2p manifold i heard this isnt enough of a manifold would it be in my best interest to purchase a used performer or street master or something else off ebay while i am at it? because right now the car seems to have power at higher rpms but it cant even spin the tires. and how about these roller fulcrum rocker conversion things that crane makes should i get them while im at it?
Head gaskets are one time use only. They can't be re-used. It sounds to me like you have compression in the coolant.
If you want rollers, look at the roller rockers Ford Racing has. They have some that are made to fit the pedestal mounts on 351C, M, 400, 429, 460. You may have to use taller valve covers.
now that ive had time to think about it, during the break in (before i reused the head gasket) it had this same problem. it would spew small amounts of coolant intermitantly, as a matter of fact i was worried about my engine and I pulled the cap off )) iknow STUPID me, my back was burned a little from the geyser lol. does this mean that my problem lies else where?
Have you checked the thermostat?
On the head gasket - once crushed always crushed - no matter if you run the engine or not.
Got Water in the Oil - or - Oil in Water?
