Hello all I just got a 99 F-250 with the 6.8l and with the cold and snow im finding small things wrong with it. First is I cant get it into 4wd it has aftermarket lockouts on it but cant seem to get it to engage. Second it has a miss when I start it and its cold it goes away after it warms up sometimes it takes a little longer to go away so I hear it when im driving. Any help would be great.
Can't help with the 4WD stuff but agree 100% your cold miss is no doubt centered around ignition. Odd that its not thrown a P030X yet though...
I (unwisely) installed a set of Granatelli's COP's and within a year one-by-one they started acting up. After sitting overnight in temps at freezing or below I'd get the rough idle, CEL every morning. Once warmed up shutting down then immediately restarting "cured" that problem---for the time being. Replacing the bad COP fully cured the problem---until the next one did the same thing.
If its not a COP then as mentioned by AllAboutDaZ the wiring harness connector to the COP, the plug and the boot/spring contact need to be checked as well. A scanner should read at minimum a pending misfire code for one or more of your existing COP's.
The connector to the COP is a NAPA p/n EC259, fits all years from '97 forward.
