EGR Cooler CEL

Well another problem with my 11. It was just at the dealer getting the fuel pressure sensor replaced and then it started throwing a different check engine light. Dealer says it needs a new EGR cooler. They said there is a TSB for this. Sorry I don't have the exact code it was throwing right now.

I haven't heard much about EGR coolers being a problem.

My 2011 has had this code also. The dealer said that it was plugging up and needed to be replaced for $1800 on my dime. I have 154K on the truck. I did not have it replaced and the only issue is that once a month or so the CEL will turn on for a day or so and then go off. I plan on just driving it and keeping the money in my pocket for now.

I unhooked the batteries and the code won't clear itself. It stays on. My truck has 31,000 miles so this will be warranty for me. Sorry to hear you were outside warranty.

$1800 isn't chump change! Add that to a new radiator, new power steering pump, leaking oil pan, and several other small problems I've had and this truck sure seems like its going to be awfully expensive to operate outside of warranty.

I would consider the ford esp warranty b4 you hit 36000 miles.I know I will to get me to 100,000 .. I figure a 1800 dollar warranty can pay for itself with one issue.I never buy extended warranties or anything ever.... Never have in my life. But I will for this truck.Maybe I wont ever use it but atleast I wont worry if it has a problem. These trucks are too complicated for myself to work on once its out of warranty. To many sensors,no room in engine bay ect.Dont need the hassle.Just my two cents.

I had the same issue recently, and the dealer replaced the EGR cooler under my Ford ESP. I had been running with the CEL light on for about 6 months before I took it in for another issue (oil leak). I didn't notice any difference in truck performance after the cooler was replaced.
