been trying to find the source of a vibration for a while now on my '04 F250 120k miles. Only happens starting from a stop and either turning left or right at moderate throttle as when I pull out of my driveway and stops as soon as you straighten the wheel. Doesn''t happen with the wheel straight starting from a stop. Hard to tell if it's from the front or back or the back but I and a few other people believe more so in the front. Front wheel bearings are good, upper and lower ball joints replaced about 10k miles ago. Front Ujoints had some play in them so I replaced both ujoints and all seals on both sides. Front tires had a little cupping on the inside - rotated the tires to the back. Everything appears tight. Snow coming soon and I don't want to break down while plowing in a storm. Any ideas???
it's 4 wheel drive automatic and is vibrating when hubs are unlocked. I've reached under and turned the front drive shaft to make sure everything is unlocked. As I said its hard to figure where I 'm feeling the vibration the most - leaning towards the wheel
My bet is you have the same problem I do and mine is the Limited slip in the rear axle chattering on take off. I have tried adding more friction modifier with no change. In the spring I am going to drain the amsoil I have in there now and go with something like Mobil 1 which already has the modifier in it. You could either add more or change your fluid and see if that helps. If it doesn't help me it looks like I will have to take mine in and have the clutches rebuilt..
I know I replaced the rear diff fluid with Royal Purple and a finned cover maybe 30K-35K miles ago. I haven't noticed any leaking back there but thats a quick check. Never really though of the rear Limited Slip being a possiblity for this vibration?
i had to replace the front wheel universal joints for the same problem on turns. later had to do all joints and carrier bearing on the drive shaft for vibration while accelerating.
ok so I added 2oz of Ford LSD additive, went out in the field and did some figure 8's to get it all mixed in. Felt it shuttering pretty good. Thought I'd drive it for a few days before adding more. I then drove some figure 8's on the asphat parking lot - felt good no shuttering. Today after doing some running around, again I felt the shuttering - from a stop and accelerating while turning only - not shuttering pulling out straight. Not sure how the LSD works but seems I have to be onto the gas pretty good while turning to get it to shutter. Doing circles on the asphalt I was hardly using any gas. So the question is do I keep adding additive a little a time to see if it goes away or is it possible something else may be wrong in the rear diff?
whats the best way to check the rear ujoints, center bearing, and pinion bearing?
put truck in neutral wout parking brake (CHOCK WEELS) twist up,down, side to side and se if play in ujoionts yoll se movement especily in the cross the center support u have top drop you dont heveto take whole driveshaft out spin support if little movement but not binding cariers good still has grease if it spins real freely or if you here the berings (like when you clean out a bering with solvant and no grease) then the center suport is bad
2 ideas. Lube the driveshaft splines with the special Ford grease. Lower the driveshaft center support 1/8" at a time with washers or spacers and see if it helps.
So can you tell me what the drive shaft has to do with turning vibrations as described by the earlier posters?
