Dip Stick Issue?

Posted this in the V8 Modular Motor and Oil/Lubrication forums---thought someone here might have an idea too.

Got a strange one here, might just be me...........

'03 E250 5.4 motor with what I'm sure is the original engine oil dip stick and tube. I notice that between oil changes the oil on the stick never changes color or level--always showing slightly above full, same color as new fresh oil.

Wiping the stick and re-checking after sitting for several hours shows the same level and color.

When changing oil the amount is not six quarts although the oil filter is full.

Any ideas or thoughts?

TIA

That is a strange deal.

Just a thought -- no solution. Next time you change oil, put the new stuff in 2 or 3 qts at at a time and check levels with the partial fills. (Don't start it without at least 4 qts )

Good Luck,

hj

Thanks FTG----sounds like a partial plan anyway!

Only downside is trying this on my steeply slanted driveway. Of course I could see if the level on the stick changed with each quart added.
