The temp guage on my 96 does not work, reads full cold, does not move at all. This is what I have tried so far.
1. Replaced temp sending unit on engine block.
2. Took apart the cluster and inspected printed circut board and
guage coil, looks fine , checked w/ ohm meter, no problems.
3. Ran a wire directly from the sending unit on block to the sig.
connection of guage...nothing.
I do not read any voltage on wire to sending unit on block. Not sure if I am supposed to or not. I have the CD ROM manual and cannot find any info on trouble shooting.
If I'm not mistaken you should get a low voltage off that wire from the sensor, somewhere around 5-7 volts with the key on. You might want to check your ground at the sensor as well.
The sensor the auto parts store sold me, that I replaced, only had one wire. It was on the pass side of block, toward the rear. I see another sensor on the drivers side, toward the front, with 2 wires, is that the one that controls the temp guage? I know the one by the t-stat is for the OBD system. 300-6.
The one at the rear on the right controls the guage. Make sure you have a good connection to ground with the sender. If you used teflon tape on the sender, make sure that isn't keeping it from getting a good connection.
