Has any budy had a problem with Volts being off by 1/2 volt or so. The ford dealer told my son his is off by that much. He had them warrinty his alternator because it was only putting out 12.4 volts and now it puts out 13.9 volts. I thought they were suppost to put out between 14 and 14.5 volts. They put in another remanufacturer job. Am I wrong, or should he just get a bigger say DC power alternator. Thanks a head of time.
There is always some voltage drop from the batteries to the OBD port where the Scangauge plugs in. It's usually about .5 volts. Your can get a more accurate reading directly off the battery or alternator.
That's around the average voltage drop at OBDII Port^^^^^^^^
Your readings sounds good
The problem is the OEM Alternators are not capable of producing enough volts to properly charge Batteries and run the truck so High Output Alternator is recommended
DC Power makes Good alternators my truck runs lots better at cold start with it
My DC Power kicks out 140 amps at Idle so it helps
SOme the guys are getting basic alts and Putting a smaller pulley on them to help
All the electronics/batteries should last longer with a high output alt so its Definatly worth installing a High Output unit
I can see that but would think what you are seeing is what the PCM see's. Haven't checked it out there yet but will. He just called and said he has coolant all over the drivers side leaf spring after towing home his trailer from Glamis. The motor didn't heat up only went to 222F and is running strong. No coolant on top of the motor or water pump pulley. Any idea's?
Blade35 that makes me feel better. He has a lot of money in this thing with BPD parts and all, he would of used there alternator if it didn't break on the road. He's going to get one and use this one as an alternate, so he said. You posted before I was done with mine. Now we have to find the coolant leak. Never stops for him.
well personaly I think BPD stuff is Overrated and Overpriced
I do like there water pumps though But Really High Price for what it is
And there EGR Coolers for the Square models are Great if I needed one that's where I would buy it for shure
What BPD stuff does he Have??? and any other stuff you can think of in regaurds to this Coolant leak???
Passengerside could be a few things Like
Heater Hose or valve
Block heater
EGR Hose little one
freeze plug
Coolant filters usually tie into that side
Block drain leaking

It will be once he takes a DVM and measures at the Alternator
13.9volts at the OBDII Port is Good for OEM alternator

Look around and under degas bottle, there's some heater hoses there. It didn't blow out of the degas cap did it?
EDIT...psssst Benny....the leak is on the driver's side.

Chet I put a 6.0 alt in my 99 7.3 and it puts out 14.5 volts at my gauge that plugs into the cig lighter and at the alt with a dvm. But I went with a NEW one from Advance Auto. I don't trust remans.
He was at the lake when it went out. He said to put in a new one but they didn't. For the BPD stuff he has the complete oil cooler set up and up graded egr with arp head studs. He also bought the scan gauge II from them . Yes the leak is on the drivers side. spring completely wet. I'll be going over there later tonight he said he laid under there and couldn't see where it was coming from. The tank and lid is dry. It ran at 222 F pulling his 40 toy hauler home and power is good. He just had the alternator replaced again at Ford maybe they did something. Can the belt rub on a hose like the 7.3 set up? Anyway all your help is appreciated. Ed he has four young kids and didn't want to work on it at that time. And new is the way I go as well.
I bought my truck in Oct and just got the scanguage II. I have a question how do i program to read temp, ficm, and other reading that needs to be watched? The truck is 06 f-250 sd,cc, 6.0L....Thanks Jim

Here is a video to see how to enter the Xgauge codes for the SGII. And, the coolant temp is already in the gauge listed as *fwt. They will take a little time. Double check every entry. You will be fine.
