Yesterday I completed my coolant flush. After completion, I have a squeak around the serpentine belt. Does anybody have an idea of where I should look? While doing the flush, The thermostat housing leaked. It was a very wet job to do. I'm sure through the process water washed off some nice grease that had Lubed to stuff up.
The squeak can be really annoying when the truck is just idling. The belt looks good and I don't feel any play but I still want to be sure.
Yeah, hose the belt off well. If it doesn't get better after it's good and dry, you can try some belt dressing on it, but I've not had good luck with it. I used it a couple times when my belt was on it's way out, but the squeaking always came back in a day or two. Replacing the belt was the only real solution in that case. It sure is an annoying noise, isn't it?
I'm having the same thing happen right now, with a brand new tensioner and idler pulley. It's a very subtle squeak that you can barely hear unless your head is near the grille on the drivers side, but annoying nonetheless.
I figure the belt is on its way out, I have a Gates HD waiting.
I read in a thread recently that someone used a sprinkle of baby powder and the squeak was cured.
I don't know if it's slipping. It was all the time, but after messing with it, it's just when I step on the pedal. Aside from using a breaker bar on the tensioner, is it hard to get a new belt on? I have the wrap around radiator hose so that won't be an issue.
It isn't difficult at all. Might be a good idea to make sure the belt routing diagram is still under the hood or take a couple pictures before you remove the old one, though.
