started the truck this am (stock 08 350 with 109k) and noticed the check engine light on the dash was on. I thought the book said emmisions but maybe its a general check engine, I did notice the coolant was below the bottom port and added coolant..... I have a pull tomorrow and am slightly worried it will be trouble...... thoughts?
So fired he truck up to head out this am and no dash lights- I took a photo yesterday of it to verify which was lit on so I know I am not crazy---- would low coolant do it? Still will have it checked to see what code was thrown---- strange- still on edge though......
gotcha on the wrench- I remember that now and limp[ mode when BAD trouble arises...... hauled 250 Christmas trees- pulling a grade it had a dead pedal feel and wouldnt spool the turbo- it just crawled up the hill when it leveled out it seemed to clear out and was ok again---- weird, might throw a new set of fuel filters at it too.....
dark tinted windows- didn't see anything and I had a chase truck behind me and when he called to ask if I was ok he didn't mention smoke just speed----
so nothing ever self fixes itself! right?right never did check codes. but today truck fell down again- empty coming home it wouldn't build boost or rpm and didn't want to excellerate or shift....... and then wham- engine light lit up like a Christmas tree on the dash........ pulled in and had codes read. P0404 and P1335 looks like egr issues. damn. hoping it is covered by the esp warrenty....... didn't smoke though! yay
think so- this am truck had no power and started hesitating and bucking- close to home so spun around and parked it---- didn't want to force the issue and require a tow...... easy fix? expensive? esp warrenty hopefully
so the mech said the esp plan does not cover the egr..... he said radiator has to come out and most valves "freeze" in and involved process for removal. cold weather chirp has started so he said belts and tensioner since already apart........ sounds expensive- not pleased prior to Christmas and scared to drive- definitely not towing......
PM Volney. I don't think the radiator has to come out to pull the valve and replace.
Buy the valve and the housing. Replace both. The housing tends to break.
You should be able to find a you tube video I'd think. I am at work so can't look at you tube here.
Wonder if the tech is thinking EGR coolers vs the valve.
The radiator does NOT have to come out to replace the egr valve. If you are a good hand with an air chisel, it makes it easier. Best way is to remove the housing, then on a bench vise, use the air chisel.
