i'm going to order a new f250 with a service body in the spring. i want it with a single cab, but i was wondering if i could have them put on supercab running boards so i could use the step to reach into the bed truck. am i crazy?
Most step bars will mount to the backside of the rocker panels so the supercab ones won't fit on a regular cab as the rear bracket would be out in the air.
You can use an aftermarket step bar, either whatever cab length you want to make fit or a wheel to wheel bar set. You'll still need to fab any mounts that aren't picked up by the cab itself.
Hey Tom, not sure of lengths & measurements & what not, but I had full length Nerfs on my old Duramax & it was great for reaching into the bed. So the idea is sound in function. I would run similar bars on the 'Duty, but I have a shell so wouldn't do me any good...
If that won't work for you, there is another option. I installed a pair of these Bed Step 2 by AMP Research, on my crew cab. Love them! They work with just the tip of your toe....
Is this an existing service body that you are moving from another truck or is this a new one that is getting done by an upfitter shop or fab shop? Ask if they can make something work with the steps. There are many wheel to wheel step bars out there but for application and fitment, they are designed for use with pickups with regular pickup boxes.
I ordered a regular cab pickup (so I could get the options I wanted) then removed and sold the pickup bed and had an aluminum service body installed. Even with side steps I don't think you could reach into the bed from the side of the service body. That would be a long reach over the side of a service body.
