Just got a 2007 F-350 diesel. About to replace the oil and transmission fluid with Royal Purple. What is the part number for the oil filter in a Fram or OEM? And, I have to change the fuel filter. Thought there was only 1, but am told their are two. Where is the second one? Any suggestions? Thanks,
Main/ primary fuel filter is on frame rail under driver, tucked up on inboard side.
You should ensure you have oem oil cap! Only buy oem filters, tons of threads of the issues with non-oem filters..
Dieselfiltersonline.com sells racor and ford, racor makes them for ford.
Using oem oil filter with non-oem cap (or after market filter w/oem cap) will likely cause unfiltered oil to ruin your expensive engine..
I agree. You can either order from Dieselfiltersonline.com or write down the part #'s and get them locally. Only get Motorcraft or Racor. (Racor makes the fuel & oil filters for Motorcraft, and are cheaper)
What is the part number for the oil filter in a Fram or OEM?
The important thing about the oil filter is to ensure that it is the one made by Racor. If it is it will have the correct patent numbers on the bottom.
Fram used to have Racor filters in their boxes. It appears that a few months ago they may have lost the right to repackage the Racors in their box. Now the filters in the Fram boxes are generic will-fit ... and therefore not the one you want to buy. I think Rusty had a thread on this a while ago.
The last few CH9549 Fram boxes I opened most definitely did not have the correct filter in them.
I had fantastic success with the Royal Purple in my '01 Excursion. I know the 6.0 is temperamental, but the Royal Purple is compatible with the Mercon. I was going to do the transmission T-Tech. (That is the name of the maching that replaces all 15 qts of transmission fluid. I know I am going to do the engine oil, but I'm thinking seriously feel like doing the transmission fluid is something I need to do as well. Just saw where Dieselfiltersonline.com is selling AMSoil online now.

Reason: Additional information
Wix sell a lot of high quality stuff but ther oil filter for the 6.0 is a no-go. Motorcraft (Wal-Mart even carries them) Navistar, or Raycor filters are the correct fit. Factory cap is important also.
Oil Filter:
Navistar 1840752C91
Racor FL-2016
Ford/Motorcraft 3C3Z-6731-AA
There have been a lot of discussions on whether any aftermarket will work. But why chance it? IMO its not worth the couple bucks you save. If availability is a problem, buy 2 and backfill as you use them, then you always have one for spare.
Dont mess with after market fuel filters either. I changed mine for the first time since owning my truck and the lower filter was an aftermarket and I was terrified at the difference. The oem has a fine wrap on it and on the end that goes into the hfcm has a raised section with an Oring that seals it to rear of The housing. The aftermarket I took out had to wrap(I assume not as fine filtration) and did not have the raised area with the oring. Who knows how long it has been in there or what crud was sent thru the lines.
