We had a factory installed (new GM van) come with propane. Dispite numerous tries, it never passed the Aircare (BC, Canada - emission test). The people at Aircare said propane vehicles are 50/50 on whether they pass. (Also, duel fuel setups haven't been done here for quite some time....only the old systems are duel)
As far as propane vehicles in confined areas, I'm seeing more and more underground parking lots around here that are banning propane vehicles. There are also fewer and fewer conversions being done. It appears that propane as an alternative fuel is lossing intrest.......I just thought it might be because of the emissions.
That said, I am holding onto my propane system in case I decide to reinstall it. If properly tuned, can you eliminate the 'heavy' propane odour?
If properly set up and in tune you should have no noticably "propane" odor. One of the reasons the knee-jerks are banning LP in garages is lack of understanding I wonder what they will do when hydrogen fuel cells become fesible? I would much rather be in an accident with a propane tank than 20 gallons of gasoline. But I have work in the in the industry since high school
Hey Racerguy, Your right on when you said the lpg trucks were hard to work on. We have quit a few now. We have had a rash of comp-u valves going bad. The dealer covered the repairs, thank goodness. How do you do a tune-up on those motors?
I dont know how other guys do tune ups on them but when I see one come in I try to make sure I'm busy until someone else gets it
They really are hard to work on. To change plugs you have to remove the Compuvalve, fuel rails, propane injection rails etc. It is a pretty horrible job.
Hehehe. Hey Dave
I know, these trucks have lifetime plugs that neverrrrrrr need changed. I think my work load will save me from this deed. I shall try, to share this fun with all my buds in the shop. After all it is not right for me to hog all the pie jobs. I shall strive to be a better person in this matter.
