First Oil Change

So I purchased my '13 6.7 in August and have right at 4950 miles on the truck as of today. Everything went smooth, I took it in and came back an hour later and everything was done(Oil, DEF Fluid topped and windshield wiper fluid). I don't know how many of you guys have seen or heard about the investigation about JiffyLube I believe it was charging customers for services they never performed. So I trust my dealer, but on a 50k truck, I am gonna take the time to double check. I get under there and the original black oil filter is replaced with a sweet white one, all of my bolts are nice and tight. Don't really know why, but I feel great that I got the oil change. I meant to catch some of it to send to Blackstone for analysis, but completely forgot. They also put the correct amount of oil(13 QTs) of 10W-30, which again was a relief. Anyways, sorry for the long winded post, but I am pretty excited that the oil got change and I am now good to go for another 5000. I did remember to reset my OilLife Minder as well in the dash. If any of you guys feel like sharing lets hear it!

I let my dealer do the first two, I always double check before I leave the dealer.

Been doing them myself for the last year now.

When it is really cold out then I let the dealer do mine. Even with my car (I have a free maint plan) I always go behind and recheck things.

I have not had my first change yet.

I'm going to do what is about the 10th oil change on mine this weekend. This will be a full service including fuel filters. Changing the oil wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for that stupid filter design. I know some people have success with punching a hole in the filter, but no matter how big or where I punch a hole, I have ended up with the same results. I still get oil pouring out of the top of the filter when I loosen it. No big deal, I'm used to it now.

5,000 miles isn't a bad idea, but you can go much further especially if you use 5W40 synthetic oil. I used to be a fanatic about oil change intervals, but I eventually figured out that I was spending a lot of money on something that wasn't necessary. Oh well, maybe the guy that ended up with my 6.0 will appreciate my investment because I sure didn't benefit from frequent oil changes in the 88,000 miles that I had it!

Never a truer word said. A VP at Mobil told me that they attribute 5% of their gross margin on synthetic entirely to the fact that so many people change their oil unnecessarily. A baby boomer thing originating from the poor performance of the Dino single weight oils that their parents used.

Hmm Ok, I think I will keep going 5k changes until 15 which then i'll let the computer tell me when to change it. I know the manual says like 22.5k or something close, but is anybody changing the fuel filters sooner?

I have been averaging about 18,000 for fuel filters. The filters have always been as clean as new when I change them, but I do seem to find some kind of metal shavings in the primary filter. It would be nice to know what that is, but it isn't getting by the filter and hasn't caused a problem to date (55,000 miles).

Took my truck to the local Ford dealer for its first oil change yesterday. 20 minutes and out the door for $105. They drained the water separator free of charge and topped off the DEF tank (for the price of a 2.5 gallon container). Everything else checked out fine.

Oil minder popped up at about 7100 miles. That's with about 3,300 miles of towing our fiver.
