Air Conditoning

I have a 93' Bronco and the Air Conditoner Clutch on the front of the engine spins even when the Air Conditoner is not on. When it does come on the Air Conditioner goes on and goes off. I have narrowed it down to this clutch and when it comes on the A/C blows somewhat cooler air. when it doesn't it is like the Fan is blowing.

Can anyone explain this

I don't understand your question. What do you mean by saying the the clutch runs all the time, and then saying "it goes off and on?" When the a/c is working properly, the fan clutch is supposed to go off and on to maintain the temperature and keep the system from icing up. When the a/c is on and the a/c clutch goes off, the air will be warmer, then the clutch will go back on, and it will be cooler. If the amount of time between the a/c clutch going off and on is very short, like a few seconds, then your system is low on freon.

Somewhere, although I am not sure where, is a thermostat that you can adjust that will control how long the ac clutch stays on (actually how cool the system needs to be to make the clutch turn off). You can adjust it down to pretty much make the ac clutch run all the time, but if you did that you'd have to watch for icing of the system. At least the last a/c system that I rebuilt, on my 72 F100, had a t-stat. I would suppose that a 93 has something similar.

Thank you for that laymans explanation! I am not a mechanic and a newby to the Bronco World I just got it because I love the Older Bronco's

Thank you again for that explanation.

Can you possible help me on the leakage on this truck?

I recently replaced the Water Pump, Thermostat, Upper and Lower Hoses, Heater Hose and belts. I now have an intermitent leak, as well as intermitent over heating problem, any suggestions.

No problem. My Bronc has always had problems with coolant leaks. I solved it by replacing EVERYTHING! All hoses, radiator, heater core, etc. If you did your hoses, there are several small hoses that you might have overlooked. They go to heat the throttle body. On my 5.8 there is one under the distributor that I overlooked, until it blew! So make sure those are replaced. Also, I find that you need to retorque all of the hose clamps every now and then, maybe three times a year. Just go over them all and give them a half-turn or so. Especially in cold weather.

As far as overheating, are you overheating because of your coolant leaks, and the coolant coming out and the truck overheating? If so, find your leaks. If not because of leakage, possible causes are (in order of likelihood) clogged radiator, bad t-stat, bad fan clutch (overheating at idle only), loose belt, bad head gasket, cracked or warped head.
