First off a little introduction my name is Zach and I not so recently bought a 94 F250 with the 5.8l EFI engine. It was pretty rusty and I am currently putting on a new box and the truck has sat for awhile so I figured I would start her up and let her run after I got it started I noticed that there was air coming from two holes on the backside (towards the engine) of this thing and when I checked on another 5.8l truck we have and air wasn't coming out of them on this. Anyways this is the part its on the driver side of the engine I was just wanting to know what it is and if this is an issue. Also on the other truck there wasn't any extra hose coming out of the end of the piece as on the far left of the picture.
Thanks for the help.
Hi Zach,
That's the air diverter valve for the smog pump/air pump. It's probably just in bypass mode, when the engine warms up it pumps fresh air into the exhaust via the back of the heads or the catalytic converter.

If the cat has been removed what happened to the air tube that went to the cat? Has it been plugged? Or is it just disconnected? Either way without a cat the AIR system isn't really doing anything.
I guess at that point all the air tubes become bypass tubes haha. My 93 yard truck is the same way, no cats and I plugged the holes on the head...but I left the pump there, so it's pumping air nowhere for no reason whatsoever.

I know that this is off-topic but how in the world do you insert the circles and arrows.
Please wait until your problem(s) are fixed before you respond as I am "butting in.
