Hunting Trip

well getting the big D ready to take for First Shotgun Iowa Deer Hunting Season, Dec. 7- 11. we are going down near Atlantic, IA 50022. just trying to figure out what way to go for best fuel economy. we could take I35 south to I80 west 70mph speed limit most the way for what looks like 220miles ~3hr 15min or take black tops and highways with mostly 55mph speed limits, stop signs and more turns, would take around 215 miles ~4hrs.

Tonight we reset the black maxx tire size trying to get it exact with GPS and its very close with 34" tire selected. I also changed the Low Boost Fuel from 3 to 0 figured that should also help on fuel economy. will still be running the HD300 tune on wild? or the highest level as that is what most say is best for mpg.

Now i know the higher the air pressure the better the mpg but id also like to have some "ride quality" the tires are 65max for 3195# each. the truck door tag says 65 front and rear for the 6k front and 6100 rear axle GAWR. now i was curious how heavy the front really was as we will be running "empty" except 4 guys and all the hunting gear. so tonight with full take of fuel the driver and one passenger we weighed right at 9k# with 5500 on the front and 3500 on the rear. wow i knew these trucks are heavy but that's a lot of weight on the front end of a near empty truck. i currently have the tires at 50psi all around but i think ill bump em up to 60 all around? maybe leave the rear at 50?

Just this last couple weeks ive done some maintenance on black Betty, both belts and tensioners, air filter, 5w40 t6 oil and filter (all ford parts) balanced all 4 tire and swapped front tires around as they had some pull. the tires balanced out very nicely except i have one wheel the is bent and needs replaced to if anyone has a deal on a cheap 20' KR let me know! i took a oil sample and sent it into Blackstone, first time using them so curious on what they have to say. Last 2 tanks of fuel i have been running some Howes meaner power kleaner and will change both fuel filters after that.

So pretty much just curios what you guys think on air pressure and which route ya think would yield best mpg. everyone says keep rpms under 2k,

Running at 70mph yields ~1850 rpm and 60mph ~1575rpm.

The only things likely to make any meaningful difference are keeping the speed down to 65 or so, keeping boost below 10psi as much as possible and using a fuel additive like Ford PM22A or 23A as appropriate. Conditioner reduces regen frequency and thus saves fuel used in regens. Things like tire pressure have so little effect (within the acceptable range) that they would only matter to taxis and semis racking up tons of miles.
