power stroke miss when warm

I replaced my high pressure oil pump and is now not leaking oil so I want to see if it was going to run right after getting it back together and it ran fine for about 15-20 miles. (Mechanic told me to drive it hard for about 15 miles to get air out of pump) After getting warm I have a real bad miss when NOT accelerating. If I'm giving it heck it runs better and not much of a miss but when I let off it cuts out, shakes, sputters & mistaken for a cheap chevy. I let it cool down, drained the bowl and put some of that fuel cleaner they recommend when changing the filter and stared it and runs great. Let it sit for 5 minutes and starts missing again. Shut it off and let it sit over night and now runs great. I replaced the Cam sensor 1,000 miles ago; it wouldn’t have gone bad yet would it? When it leaked oil it got everywhere. I could have gotten oil in a connector or sensor. Check engine light does not come on, would I get any codes?

It can take 50-100 or more miles to purge all the air from the high pressure oil system. It may take a few days to clear up.

Thanks Scott, I feel like the air is mostly purged and runs great but only when its cold. After it warms up it starts shaking and acting like it did when the cam sensor went bad maybe even worse, except for the dieing part. Even when warm it never fails to start, just runs bad. I can idle it up to about 2,500 and seems to get better but I can’t go in town doing 90. Do you think it could be a bad INJECTION PRESSURE REGULATOR? I have one off of a friend’s spare motor to try tonight but I feel it has to be something simple if it only does it after it warms up? Not real good with these diesels yet and is my first one.

Did you get the IPR in? Did it fix it?

Scott. I changed the IPR last night and thought I would be lazy and see if I could just change the magnetic coil that slides over the pin and while I was having fuel leaks I bought a kit from ford that has all new rubber rings and changed them before I started and it started right up (I knew it would), I let it run for 1/2 hour and took off to the high way. Seemed to run fine, drove about 10 miles checked oil and if any leaks, everything was ok , drove another 20 miles and ran even better. I took it home and let it idle for about 3 hours and still ran fine. I don’t see how it could have went bad when it wasn’t broke before the leak and I never dropped it ? Thank everyone for any input. I have a manual ordered and hope it helps troubleshoot any future problems.

99 SD F250 Power Stroke Diesel, 4x4 Extended cab, no mods, just naturally runs great (finally).

Prolly got oil soaked when it was leaking. Who knows. As long as it's running right
