In addition, the newer wheels are hub centric where the '97 and older are lug centric. That is, the newer wheel locates and is centered by it's fit on the hub where the older wheels are centered by the lug nuts.
There are several companies that make wheel spacers / adapters that allow the use of the metric wheels on our older trucks.
Be aware, the newer wheels use a different style lug nut than the older tapered seat lug nuts on our trucks.
