I got a 89 7.3 with c6 3 speed tranny, I get ****ty mileage and at 45mph I'm at 2k rpms I got a set of 35x12.5. Do u think if I put those on it will stretch my gears out more helping mpgs at all?
lol no.lifting a truck hurts economy,as does adding 12.5 wide rubber.an OD trans swap is the only real way to gain economy from the old school c6 trans.sounds like you have 4.10 gears too which doesn't help.swapping a 3.55 rear will help a bit.not like adding an od trans of course but something.
Bigger tires kill MPG. End of story. I had 35's and HATED them in every way. I have 33's now and they are still on the big side. But they don't make the Duratracs in 31's or 32's so 33's are my only choice.
Well I'll be darned. They were not available to my dealer when I ordered my tires. Will keep that in mind when I get my next set of tires. Of course that isn't for a while...
Depending on your set up, the weight of the 35's will most of the time keep the mileage just about the same, you are adding a heavier rolling mass to the mix.
Hands down, change the C6 out to an overdrive trans. The only thing I use a C6 in is a trail rig or drag truck. C6 for normal use is just no good on the fuel mileage. I had a Bronco for my daily commute, when I first got it it had the C6, I swapped it out with an E4OD trans and gained about 6mpg just from that.
I've heard a truck with a c6 does not have the proper wiring for eo4d
you heard correctly.you can find an idi truck that came with an e40d and get it's stand alone computer for the trans along with the wiring harness at a salvage yard or buy an aftermarket controller.you'd have to love your truck though as it would be much easier and perhaps just cheaper to just sell your truck and buy an all running idi truck with a e40d trans already.
