Hey everyone,I,m a newbie here and probably have a newbie question.but i have to change my gf's rotors I was just wondering how difficult of a job i was looking at.are their any special tools i will need bout how long could this process take.I have some mechanical knowledge. But i dont own a explorer. So i was just wondering thx for the help
The rotor change is not difficult at all. Once you get the wheel off, take the brake caliper off (two bolts on the back). Then you want to remove bearings (font and rear of rotor), and put it back together. make sure that while you have everything apart to check the bearings and brake pads. Since you will have it all apart, it is a good time to replace anything that looks worn instead of having to take it all apart again.
As far as time goes, it will probably take you half a day to do all four - maybe longer depending on your experience.
If you run into problems, give us a yell and hopefully we can help you out!
Thanx man! im just doin the front so hopefully it wont take to long.Doesnt sound very bad of a job.If i have any problems at all I will give u guys a hollar.
Also, if it's a '94 and earlier, you're going to need a wheel bearing lock-nut socket. The four pronged socket that is used on manual hubs is relatively easy to come by, but the 2-3/8" hex socket that removes the nut on the auto locking hubs can be a little difficult to find.
Sorry guys, It is a 94 and yep hard time finding the socket. When I did it was 30 bucks. Then what is worse one of those One of those nuts u take off with it is like 60 bucks for the stealership.I know that cuz one of them broke. So tomorrow im going to the juckyard and get one.But it was a fairly easy job. Thanks for your help.
