Broke down on road
1998 Expedition 5.4
A friend and his family are stranded on road and would like some ideas to try.
He was driving along normaly when the "theft" light started blinking on the dash and the truck quit.
Hes fairly mechanicly inclined so he tried a few things.
Unhooked the battery and tried to get theft thing to reset.
Checked fuses.
Checked fuel shutoff button ,
Anyone got any ideas?
It turns over fine but wont start.
It had no issues before this.

The problem is with the PATS (theft system). When it's triggered like that, the power is cut off to the fuel injectors (among other things.) If the PATS module somehow lost it's memory for the code in his key, then he has to get it to the dealer to be reprogrammed. One other option is if he has a second key, he can try that one.
