02 bed removal

I'm gonna recieve a dimond back HD quad hauler for my 02 f-350 this week and i'm going to install it myself. The only problem I forsee before I get started is the front pannel of the bed(under the rear window) is bent out of shape and i'm going to have to slide the bed back to straighten it. I't looks like 8 bolts in the bed.Can someone tell me what to expect after I get the bed loose? Is there anything else connected to the bed or should I be able to move the bed back with the 8 bolts removed and not worry about pulling something else off the bed?

Brake lights. Those bolts are hard to take out, have some extra torx bits handy, I broe a craftsman and a snap on and still had to cut off a bolt or two.

I've never done it myself, but the obvious things that come to mind are the fuel filler neck and the tail light wiring. From reading previous subjects, the biggest problem is removing the 8 bolts themselves.

Or just read jmatthews post that came in while I was pecking mine out :-)

Thanks for the help. I dident think there was a lot to it but my thought was to just create enough room to be able to get a mallet or whatever in there, I'v never done this eather so I plan on going slow, mabey I can jack it up off the frame from the front end fo the bed then just let it down in the same place. Do any of you think that could work?

if your headboard is bent into the cab and you want to save the bed, try straightening it out on the truck.

we have a jig at the body shop that slips over the headboard lip, and then we hook a come-along to it attached to the rear bed tie downs.
pull the headboard 1/2 inch past where you want it to be and relieve tension on it. this usually will bring it back to where it should be.

if you plan on pulling the bed off, just grind the heads off the bolts and replace them. the chances of getting them out are slim to none.

it really is so simple that most people do not think about it and do it the hard way.

we made the jig years ago after one of the customers with a small trucking company was always loading stuff in pickups and not strapping it down properly, resulting in bent headboards after hard braking. 99% of the time it was a larg piece that would bend the top of the headboard and leave the bottom fairly straight.
this made fixing the beds a 10 minute deal instead of removing it to hammer it out.
we got enough work from him we never even bothered charging for headboard fixes after the third or fourth time once the parts were paid for.

When I bought my truck the bed was touching the cab. One of my co-workers and myself, braced our feet at the bottom of the bed and pulled at the same time at the top and bent the bed rail back straight. They aren't that strong, if you can't do it by hand, I would definately try hooking something to it, before trying to remove the bed. I had to cut the bolts on a buddy's truck that was six months old.
