I'm am looking into purchasing an 08, or 09 EL Expedition. We are currently in an 02 Excursion with seating for 9 with all the seats being used. The expy would be a 2nd vehicle, but it would be nice to know if they can be converted as a possible add to later and move out of the Xcursion.
I thought I saw a picture of an 08 xlt with seating for 9. The front console area was what looked like a small jump seat that would provide the 9th seat.
My question is does anyone own a 9 passenger expedition? Did they even have that option? Has anyone converted their 8 passenger into a 9 passenger? Can it even be done?
I searched the forum but could not find any mention of it.
Still trying to get interior pictures sent to me with regards to the 09 EL to see if it has the center console shift or not, but ultimately that would determine if it would be an easy conversion.
I have seen a few. I think it is special order and standard in police type vehicles. You can't easily convert as you have to replace the floor shifter to column, etc.
I might wait and see after purchase what can be built. I would think the front seats from a f-150 will be the same. At that point I'll see what kind of min floor shift console I'll need. The rear seat controls will not be so important to maintain and will probably tuck under the seat. We will have to see on that.
I have more time than money so a new factory order is not a consideration.
I do not want a van, plus that just doesn't work for us with the size, it is just too big.

Ahh. I think you could find one, and even if you had to pay shipping, it would be cheaper/easier/safer than moding your own. Just my 2 cents.
Well I see your point.
I have searched across Canada and all I found was the one I linked above, but that is not in the EL/ max version that I'm after.
I'll be playing the waiting game for the right one that's for sure.
I'd want one that Ford built as a 9-passenger vehicle. Things like seat belts and airbags get complicated in a hurry, so I'm not sure that simply swapping in a bench would get you heading down the highway.
I'd think the 9-passengers are rare but not necessarily desireable, so I don't think you'll pay a premium to get one.
Your link is actually what he is looking for. He was looking for an EL with that interior, and asking if it existed or could be converted. The link he posted was a standard length and his questions about the EL and conversion were based off of that.
Still looking. Just been a busy week and doing for research on this subject. Reading the F150 areas also, as they also have the same interior and option of seating arangement.
It looks like it is going to sit on the burner till we purchase and then have time to remove the center console.
Seat belt config/ air bag stuff is really not an issue as the expy is on the f150 platform (i believe) and I could use the seats out of a f150 for this. Really only the 20 seat. Only concern would be the floor shift, but really no different that a stick shift (standard tranny) on the floor in front of a bench 20 section seat would be any ways. My thought process any way and we will have to wait and see on this after purchase.
Not really a stopper for purchase, but would be nice to be able to convert to 9 passenger.
