(I'm going to start at the basics since you didn't say what you've done yet.)
First, you have to have an electric brake controller installed.
Second, you have to have a 6- or 7-pin or 7-blade connector at the back of the truck.
Third, you have to connect a trailer with electric brakes and good wiring.
If you have all that and they don't work, you should test the brake terminal in the connector to see if it goes hot when you operate the controller.
