Been having problems with my 97 Explorer V8 AWD. About 3 days ago it began shaking rather voilently and smelling like burning oil or rubber. It later began flashing the Check Engine light at me. It's particularly bad when idle. Any ideas? Guess the first thing to do is get the codes pulled?
Hello,
I have seen the spark plug wires do this. they are a weak point for the v8 and are usually not much good after 60k miles or so.
there was also a torque converter shudder concern that could also be the cause but I would tend to check the wires out first because of the check engine light.
