Does anyone know what type of headers i should use on my 351c in my 55 f100. I dont know what to go by, this motor was not stock and when i call Jegs they cant help me. They say its cutom so i tell them what i want. I have seen shortys and long ones that go down to the trans. Dont know thanks For your help.
Unfortunately, Jeg's was right. There's no way for them to know what'll fit in your setup. A few obstacles determine what will fit:
power steering box? IFS suspension? Size of starter....
Basically, I had to "eye ball" it on my '59. I have PS, IFS, etc. I had to switch from full length headers to block huggers. Then even with going to the block huggers, I had to get a smaller starter!
You should be able to get pretty close by measuring how much room the headers have between the block and the frame; how far down from there they can dip before hitting an obstacle (and what angle they need to sweep back at); from that point, how far down to clear the frame, starter, control arm brackets (if you have an IFS on it), and any other obstacles in the way in that area between the side of the engine block, the frame, and where the exhaust meets up at.
Get those "approximate" measurments and call the manufacturer directly. I had luck with Doug Thorley full length headers before I installed the IFS. Check out Hooker, Hedman, etc. Call or go to their websites and E them with measurements. One of their tech folks can determine which style (part #, whatever) will work best for your application. Might be a good idea to "ok" with them that you be allowed to test fit their product and return it if it doesn't fit.
Worst case scenario, you could have custome headers made, but that'd be a lot more expensive than pre-fabs off the shelf. Hope this helps, and good luck in your search.

Well im going to use it stock right now but i woill change it to a mustang II setup after i get it on the road. i Have to bring it down to get a Vin Verafiction done. i have to rolling frames one stock one im modified. Thanks Roger
Looks like Sanderson has a dead-bang header for your application. I just saw their ad in the Aug'03 Street Rodder magazine. www.sandersonheaders.com

check out their part # FF4, plain: $265; ceramic silver coated:$415
i went with S&S headers. i have a volarie front subframe and a 351 cleveland. they fit great, i did have to re-angle the drivers side collector, but that was no big deal. you see my motor sits pretty far forward. they sent them to me, un-coated, and i modified the end and sent them back. they re-did what i did and coated them. there not shortys, like the sanderson, but there not longees either. i think there perfect, and cheaper than the sanderson type. also, they only come for the four V heads only, so i had to send them a two barrel gasket so they could weld up the openings to match the ports. i have four V heads and if i ever put them on ill only have to grind out the headers to match.
I have a pair of the Sanderson's to put a Cleveland in my '64. I'm very pleased with them - heavy gauge and the flanges are extremely thick, so no warping.
I wouldn't have thought there were that many 351C's left out there with the short production run they had. It kinda surprises me to see so many after looking at all the threads here...
I have a set of Sandersons on my 1960. Has a y block V8. You can see the engine compartment in my gallery. The headers go past the firewall. I'll try and get some better pictures this weekend and send them.
