just bought a used 2011 ranger sport 4.0l with 5 spd manual trans., 14,000 miles. when the truck is cold, shift to 2nd gear seems stiff and almost wants to bobble. after the truck is good and warm this goes away and it shifts smooth.
my guess is (and this may be crazy) the the prior owner mostly did commutes and not a lot of in town driving so 2nd hasn't seen a lot of use. or should i be more concerned with a syncro situation? i have checked the transmission fluid level and it's full and looks clean.
You might check the hydraulic clutch fluid level, but if this is your first Ranger, some would probably say welcome to the Mazda 5 speed manual transmission world.
If its a 2011, this puppy should still be under warranty, so make it a Dealer/Ford problem & thus without delay take it in & have it put on the record while its still under warranty & let us know whats found.

new to the ranger so do you imply the manual transmission is of poor quality from the start

still about a year on the warranty which is great. just trying to get some thoughts on the problem and have some ammo when i take it to the garage. i would like some background before they try to blow me off with bs like "still breaking in" or trying some non OEM mystery fluid. not looking forward to the "game".
If it shifts hard when the tranny lube is cold, but ok when the tranny lube is warm, it would suggest maybe the previous owner has changed the fluid, or has added something to the lube thats changed its cold viscosity, or maybe you do have a sync problem.
What color was the fluid when you checked it???? What happens if you double clutch when up shifting to second????
