Replacing a 2013 E150 Door

I need to replace the drivers door on a 2013 E150. Does anyone know what year van door will work. Recycle yard does not have cross over info on the 2013. Dealer says only a 2013 which I can believe. I don't think the body line has changed from 2002.

You're mostly correct about the body/door fit----the only real changes were how mirrors were mounted. I do know from 2003 to at least '08 could be interchangeable as they'd have four bolt holes for the mirrors.

If you could snap a photo of the door shell behind the mirror mounting area under the trim piece it would be very helpful.

Here's the general area I'd want to see:

Also show the door latch opening as well.

Thank you. I will ck this out when I get back to the shop. Do you think the main plug on the wire harness is the same if they both have full power.

Nope, the wiring harnesses are different. I tried to fit newer E350 door panels and power switches in my 01 E350, but no luck, too different. The mirrors can be mounted, but you will eliminate one mounting point, and have to drill larger holes in the door in a few places for the newer mirrors. You will also end up making spacers. In short, it's a lot of fiddling to fit them to the older doors.
I started it, and finished the drivers door, and decided I actually like the older mirrors better. I feel I can see more, and it was sturdier.

This is assuming you find a door from a model older than 2008. I have a 2001, tried fitting parts from a 2010.

What you need or want to do is find the door shell that is a direct fit---all the wiring harnesses etc are easily transferred from the replaced door to the new shell. They will look very similar, have the same number of wires leading into the connectors but Ford is good about changing pin out locations from one year to another, no real good or understandable reason for this.

Beginning model year 2003 the four stud mirror mounts appeared and its not an easy task trying to adapt an earlier door shell to accommodate them. I did this very thing and now know simply changing the entire door shell would have been the better choice. (Was fitting '03 and later power mirrors to a '97 E250 door.)

Most of the door's inner parts are the same from '92 forward at least as far as it all fitting and their function. Since we don't yet know why you're changing the door or what's left of the old one tough to say what else you'll need other than the donor door.

Just a little update.
The replacement door was from a 2004 with the same pedestal type mirror.
I did as was suggested ( used wiring harness and mirror from existing door) and all went good. 2013 door panel went right back on with no issues.

Thanks for the help it save me a lot of $$$.

JWA, how much trouble did you have on those mirrors. I'm doing the 03 power mirrors on my 99 with manual mirrors.

Moosey78 that swap would require drilling and cutting the mirror mount door shell. Besides the visible metal surfaces (interior/exterior) there are several inner reinforcement pieces that interfere with the 4 stud mounts of '03 and later mirror housings. IIRC one or two of the 4 studs line up with the 3 stud holes but can't be too sure after all this time.

Both styles mirror bases perfectly fit any door but its getting those studs through the door for attaching that makes this a challenge. Let me did out my older mirrors and look how they mount once again---might jog my memory what I did, if there's a better way.

Its not impossible to do, just takes some work with the tougher part being making a suitable transfer template to drill new holes. Honestly when switching from the earlier pedestal mirrors to dual element types I was very disappointed in the results. Having an '03 with those same mirrors I have since converted those to an '07 type, single mirror glass filling the entire shell.

I still miss my '02 and earlier larger mirrors though.........!

I'm gonna give it a try. I'm also getting the door panels too as they have the little cubby holes at the bottom and mine don't. Already got the center console/doghouse. Gonna have classic 99 exterior with modern 03 interior.

Good enough then---best thing is all that (except the mirrors) are completely interchangeable!

Good thing ford hasn't changed the basic body for almost 20 years

Yep! On top of the considerable wide range of years fitting these bodies I've found the earlier body parts are a bit "better" in quality.

Being honest I've seen quite a few older models in salvage yards with far less rust and rot than the 2002's through 2007 or so. Not sure what that says but when its time to replace a few doors on my current E250 I'll look for something sound from the earlier '90's.

Hope your mirror swap goes easy Moosey!
