Mass Air Conversion-needing some help

so i had been throwing around the idea of a MAF conversion on my 95 F150. i runs a 5.8 w/ e40d 4x4 trans. i decided to pull the trigger and start putting together a kit when i ran across an ECM that would run the E4od and got an amazing deal on it. i picked up a AKC0 Lightning ECM with the SCT chip already installed but now i am starting to wonder if it will work with a 4x4 truck. i have the mechanical BW 1356 t-case so i think it should work because there shouldn't have to be any provisions in the ECM for that should there? any help on a parts list would be much appreciated too

You'll probably just lose the 4x4 and low range dash lights.

There are some folks around that have mapped the computer pinouts from the transmission to the stock computer. I seem to recall there was some discussion on the computer remapping shift points when in 4x4.

You could always just slap it together and see what happens

Give me a couple days, I will try to sort the 4x4 thing out for you. Getting ready to convert mine and I have both wiring diagram books. Was getting ready to figure it out for mine anyway. Will post when I have it.

The computer has nothing to do with 4x4 functionality, but there were no MAF 5.8 Lightnings so that computer is from a Bronco or F-series truck. I have seen it referred to as a Lightning computer in many places but that's an error because it does seem to be a MAF PCM.

I think the one he has is from the official Ford Racing Lightning mass air conversion kit.

AKC0 F8TF-12A650-NA computer?

You may be better off with one from a MAF Bronco.

That would explain it and you may be right about him being better off with a Bronco PCM, the link indicated the AKCO is programmed for an 80mm meter and 30lb injectors.. both of which are far too big for a stock motor.

Exactly at least with EEC-IV, pin 12 monitors low range switch. Shift into low range shift points happen at much lower ground speeds. Otherwise blow motor before ever hit high enough speed to shift to second! I can always tell when the low range light didn't come on in my plow truck, has a sticky switch.

Agreed, awesome computer for a go fast conversion, not so much for 4x4 though. Doing the MAF changeover myself, but got lucky and found a 5.8 Cali emissions computer and full wire harness. My concern comes in changing from electronic 4x4 to manual, and the wiring associated with, but that's my issue, lol.

Pretty rare ECU though, at least worth a few bucks!

I know I would probably be making life a lot easier on the project by finding a MAF bronco or f150 ecm but they are hard to come by unless you by a kit for the conversion and my budget doesn't allow for that. my truck is kind of an oddball build. It has the manual 4x4 not the electronic so I didn't think that it would make a difference as far as the ecm goes. And I rarely if ever use the low range if ever. I've had the truck about a year and a half had used it for about 2 mins pulling a buddy out. The guy I bought it from said he was running 24 pound injectors in the rig he pulled it from and I didn't ask about mass air meter. The gains from mods from the build should put me around 300-310 which from what I have been reading is borderline for needing the 24 pounders anyways. But shouldn't the sct chip allow me to change my tune to adjust off the 30 pounders and 80mm mass air meter if that is still the program? There is a shop near home that my wife's uncle takes his mustang to that are sct gurus

And I am in the AKC0 only 75 bucks so I can easily break out of it if I have to. What made me really want to use this one is that SCT says that only the Lightning ECMs are compatible with the selectable tune chip where I can change my tune with the flip of a switch. I use my truck for a lot if different things so it would be really nice be ably to adjust for what I am doing

I am no tuning expert by any means, but a switchable tune on a naturally aspirated engine is overkill in my opinion.

A turbo / supercharged engine is where something like that would really be beneficial.

Get the engine setup with the parts you want, and take it to that local SCT shop and do a everyday tune and forget about it.
