So with Bubba having now proven himself to be the daily driver of choice for the family with a perfect 700 mile round trip run to Memphis and back last weekend (the 460 was perfect but quite thirsty), it's time to look into a decent A/V system. It's currently got some aftermarket stereo with seemingly worn out womp-womp factory door speakers. The head unit may be fine for my plans; I'm going to research what it is and see if it can be kept. I'm looking to add a flip down monitor and external DVD player, along with hopefully a sub box and new speakers to complete it. What have some of you done for building an entertainment system for your vans?
I left mine alone except for six Kenwood door speakers. All the TV and VCR stuff would have to be gutted and wood trim and dashboard recut, just wasn't worth it. I took the money and bought a good Laptop with a DVD player and some $5.00 EBay VHS movies from 2002 when the van was new, plus I still have a working Sony PlayStation that plugs in the system........LOL
Replacing the door speakers is step one in the process regardless. They're clearly past their prime anyway. I was also thinking about a drop down monitor with a DVD built in. The aftermarket head unit installed by the PO is a Kenwood KDC-155U which has outputs for subs already, plus an aux input I can plug the DVD player into. Not looking to fab up anything other than the sub boxes. I like the interior room as it is and don't want to add a bunch of wood structures to house the monitor and electronics. Thinking of something like this...
I've considered something as advanced as JL Audio C2 or C5's but a Kenwood single DIN receiver Excelon X997 will be first to replace an older Sony receiver.
