Question 351C Pickup Project

I'm building a 1973 F-100 and want to drop in a blueprinted Ranchero 4V 351C/Wide-ratio Toploader power train. I'm just starting the body and chassis work, but I'm thinking ahead to motor mount, header clearance, and drive shaft issues. Anybody out there got any hints on dropping a 335 series in an F-100?

351C Pickup Project

I did it several years ago with a 74, but mine was a C6 instead of the toploader. Headers may be a challenge as the only ones I could find at the time to fit a truck chassis were for the later 351M/400s. Which of course had the 2V heads resulting in the port mismatch from hell. Other than that, the mounts are the same, and I had to go to the boneyard and find a shorter coupling shaft because of the length of the C6 vs. the 302/C4 combo it replaced. It should move your truck right along, especially with the 4 speed.

351C Pickup Project

UAW local 19 guy, I installed a 1972 351 Cleveland with C6 into my 1975 F100. I went with the 351C headers for a '72 Mustang, I figured that if it will fit in a car with a cramped engine compartment it should fit in a pickup with more room. I had to modify the cross brace that goes under the rear of the engine, otherwise they fit fine. Motor mounts, I used, are the same as the 302 with no modifications needed. I had a new driveshaft made locally for $70. Good luck.
