on my 2000 f350 the a/c will cut off at random times. you can turn the switch off for about 1 minute and then back on and the a/c compressor will come back on for awhile and then the same routine over again. any ideas?
Welcome fellow Louisiana resident, if the compressor keeps kicking off, it is highly likely that it is low on refrigerent. There is a pressure switch that monitors the system and when it is low it shuts down the compressor. It will come on briefly, then shut off it is low.Maybe this what it is.
that was the first thing that came to mind, but the pressures are fine. it seems as if some electrical component is overheating or something like that.
i have a 95 f350 and my truck seems to do the samething. It will be blowing cold the just shut off and then sometimes it wont come back on. Seems like it comes on when it is cool outside but when it gets hot (100+)live in sacramento ca. it pushes hot air. I just added a can ao freon and still the same thing. It feels like my compressor is shutting off although I am not sure. Where should i go first?
Disconnect the vaccum pump from the resivoir. (Passenger side fender beside the condensor) Then turn on the key and be sure the pump runs. This may not reveal the problem is the pump is only sufferring and intermittantly failing. When the pump fails completely you will no longer be able to switch the airflow directors. Vent/Floor/defrost. It will only blow air from the defrost if the pump has failed. The resivoir can hide an itermittant failure for some time before all the symptoms develop.
