lately my oil filter has been dripping oil from the bottom. i replaced the filter and it still leaks, just runs slowly down the side. the filter is tight enough, and i'm just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar to this. it seems to leak from betweent he filter and the thing its screwed into.
any ideas?
I had an old filter leave it's gasket behind and I did not notice. It leaked no matter how much I tightend it. I took it off and found the old gasket, took it off and it was good to go.
Leaving the old cp,plete gasket behind, a build up of old crud, or pieces of the old gasket where it stuck to the metal surface on the block side will all cause an oil filter to leak.
Make sure that the mating surface is shiny clean.
Put fresh oil on the new seal before you install it. The oil causes the seal to swell and prevents it from ripping while you are torquing down the filter (from my experience).
yeah, i've checked all those things. everything was fine and dandy so it must have been the filters i put on. i've got a wix now and if that leaks then i don't know what the deal is.
