I love the smell of Douglas Fir. I just sold my house a couple of weeks ago, but before I met my wife, I would get a 22 foot spruce for my living room.
Ill take a couple at work tomorrow forsure! its way quicker than using a knife but it gets pretty heavy on the shoulders after about 30 min. when its hot out i prefer a knife over the saje, as we wear long sleeve shirts with the saje cause we have to get really close to the branches and all the spruces cut you up real quick!

I agree, the douglas firs are the best smelling trees! now thats a tall A** ceiling, we usually sell 3 or 4 trees like that, anywhere from 18-30 ft. yes we had a guy come with a 36ft flatbed trailer and he bought a 30 ft. pine tree to put in his living room, we had to hand bail that thing and it took 5 of us to get it on the trailer!

oh yeah 12 ft. ladder is a must! i had one break on my last year while i was wiring up a top and i was just quick enough to fall iinto the tree and grab some branches, it was an 19 ft. norway. im glad it wasnt a blue spruce or that wouldve really hurt!

When I did construction, I would walk up the extension ladder carrying 2 bundles of shingles. Or walking across roof trusses with no sheeting, 40 feet up. It's weird how your mind can control what you do.
I've ski jumped before too, but get pretty freaked out when I'm free falling for several seconds.

Yeah, blue spruce can be painful when you hit it.

I can't really see using that thing all day. I used to trim 1000 trees a day when I did it. Those were 3.5 ft to 6 footers. I used to trim two rows at a time so I could stick around with the other guys trimming one row. They used to call me Superpruner. I was honored, but the previous company I worked at, they all trimmed that fast.

1000 trees is the minumum we have to do in an 8 hr. day, especially with the machines, theres only 2 of us that trim all 98 acres. so realistically its closer to 1500-2k in an 8 hr day, with a knife i could maybe get 1000 on a good day, it really helped when i taught myself to do it with both arms and could do one row with the right and one row with the left.

Alright Torr, this is what we use to trim the trees, although this guy is going quite slow...I average about 15 seconds per tree if the blade is kept tight and is clean.

That's pretty cool. I would like to see how you do it with both hands.

i can only do the knife with both hands i have no clue you you would run that with two blades, i have used a knife before with the saje but boss didnt like it very much cause when he tried it he hit the arm on the backpack and it broke the knife so he asked me not to do it anymore. the fastest ive ever gone with the saje is 5 seconds a tree and that was trimming the Firs, if there trimmed right the first time all you really have to do is cut the tips and its very quick with the machine

I see. Yeah, I liked trimming firs too. Very soft, the weight of the blade could cut through when your knife is sharp.

the only thing about that is its about an extra 50lbs if its an older model, the newer ones weigh around 20, we also havea blade thats 12ft long, now that thing is practically impossible to control. it likes to bend a little so it tends to wobble and if its windy it about knocks you over if the wind catches the blade right. it has its pros and cons but i prefer it over a knife as long as its not warmer than 90* lol

Yeah, no wind getting through those trees. It seemed to always be in the upper 80s when I did it.
