Hi all, I recently changed my HVAC blower in my truck 1996 f350 PSD CC and it still feels weak. I know the mix setting doesnt work hardly, it only blows on the floor mostly not out the vents. Any ideas? Also when I shut the truck off you can hear a small hissing coming from the HVAC controls so there is a small vaccum leak somehwere. Any ideas what or why my vent isnt blowing that strong?
My guess is that the vacuum leak is your problem. It's likely got the blend door stuck in between a couple of settings and it isn't directing the air where it needs to be. It may even be partially blocking the flow of air. I'm betting you fix that leak and you will fix this issue as well.

How much of a pain is it to get the HVAC controls out?
It's not terrible. The worst part is taking the control **** out for the temperature control. It drives a cable that runs down through the dash. If you're careful you can remove it from the back of the climate control panel and just pull the rest.
If I recall correctly there are two little screws at the bottom of the trim and two clips on the top (that pull straight out). Then you can see the (two or four) screws that remove the control panel and it just comes out the front of the dash.
bill's right - check under the hood first. here's the line he's talking about:
its white, coming right out from under the hood hinge in the image above. mine was worn/chewed through and giving similar symptoms. I 'fixed' it with some tubing with an ID the same as the broken tube OD, some vacuum grease and some electrical tape. its been much better since - though it looks pretty rough.

Well as it turns out so are mine. Electrical tape works miracles... Now I have it taped up and I got power back from the blower but I still have leak in the cab somewhere by the vent control . I turned it around a couple of times and it only hisses on the "OFF" position and the "MIX" position still doesn't work worth a darn either. I pulled the HVAC assembly out briefly and it seems the rubber housing thing that all the hoses go into is leaking (it seems). Any more ideas, and any reasoning why its hissing on"OFF" only?
To elaborate some about that rubber piece that the hoses go into, i pinched it so that i was pushing it closer to the plastic assembly it seemed to stop hissing but when i would let off it would hiss again.... Do you guys think its possible for there to be a split in the rubber? The hiss isn't horrible but its noticeable, and with winter coming i would like to have warm arms and warm feet at the same time.
That piece of rubber you're talking about is the way the lines terminate into the control assembly. If that piece is broken or loose, that's the cause of your issue. I think there are a couple of fasteners that hold it tight to t he ***** and then it should just pull straight off the back.

I was talking to my neighbor the other day and I mentioned to him about my vacuum leak going on in the cab, and the little plastic block. He suggested that maybe i could get away with gluing the block back together, with rubber cement or pvc cement. That possible if it is cracked without making a bigger mess? I have not had a chance to pull it out and mess with it because we have been busy digging up mulch plastic in the fields and getting tomato stakes out, but its raining today so I might mess around with it this afternoon. What do you guys think?
I guess anything is worth a shot as long as it doesn't get sucked into the vacuum lines and make things worse. Goop it up good with silicone and let it dry for a day before you try it.
Kinda reviving my old thread here but I'm having another issue. When I turn my temp control onto warm, I loose volume from the blower (its not as strong as it should be) but if I move it back to the cold side I get full volume back. Is this from crud in my blend door? And I did not fix my vacuum leak issue as previously stated in this tread.
Your vacuum leak may be the issue here as well. It may not be opening the blend door to the heater core, but closing it off from the A/C side. I think you need to fix that vacuum leak before you spend too much more time chasing other HVAC issues.
Well now Im going to throw another wrench into this, fired the truck up today, heat setting worked perfect (not that i still dont have to fix that vacuum leak..... I will get to it eventually lol. I gotta figure out what the heck is going on with my trans first
Did this issue get resolved? My HVAC control has the "hissing" sound when in the "Off" position. The hissing stops when I turn the know to the "Floor" position. That's the only position I've checked.
Can this hose be reached from under the dash without removing the HVAC control? Or does the HVAC control have to come out for repair?
