MAF or IAT sensor question.

I was running a Banks CAI (was on the truck when I bought it) and I swapped it for the factory setup today from a friends truck. Now to my question. There had been a wide rectangle shaped plug that had a cap on it and the sensor that went post air filter was a push in type that went through a round rubber grommet. Well when I swapped I was like, now I can plug that wide plug into something since the factory setup had the factory mass air flow bolted to it. Well he asked me what the plug thing was dangling on mine now and I said oh that went behind the filter where the maf sensor was. Well on mine I have both wired into together like someone spliced it. Well I traced the wires back and found only one wire that was spliced so I just pulled the round grommet that was in the banks one and put it into the hole the maf sensor on the factory went and pushed the push through type sensor back into the factory one. I left the factory maf sensor plug unhooked and we just bolted his factory maf sensor to the banks one. Hope I havent confused anyone. There is a couple pics below to maybe explain things. Am I ok with the push in one or do I need the factory sensor as they look different but go in the same place.I didnt take a pic of his sensor but its a long rectangle shape where I have this round push pin type.

Some 05's didn't use the MAF/IAT sensor that requires the flat plug. IIRC it's only an IAT sensor. I don't know what affect it's going to have on your PCM having MAF and IAT. You might plug in a scanner and see if it's reading both.

Well Im only running the IAT if that is what I have pushed down in there. All I had was a capped plug for the MAF and when we swapped boxes I had his MAF but then the IAT was dangling. His is an 06 (mines 05) and with his MAF on the box he swapped me he didnt have anything else. His didnt have both like mine. I didnt know if someone added it later for whatever reason but never noticed before. I always wondered why I had a capped plug and now I know. I gave him his MAF back and just pulled the grommet from the banks and put it in the factory spot where his MAF was and slid my IAT in. Same setup on my end except its in a factory box instead of the banks. Just plugged the cap back into my MAF plug. Just didnt know why mine was different.
