A deeper drop bumper?
A deeper drop bumper?
So I have a problem that I am sure other have had before me. My current towing set up with my '79 F250 is too tall for the trailer that I have. I have seen the clear work around for this on others' trucks by adding a tow hitch below the drop bumper, thus allowing you to tow a lower trailer. With my set up it looks like an easy workaround would be to simply un bolt the current piece of iron the tow ball is mounted to and find another 'deeper' piece of steel, thus lowering the tow ball a few inches.
Does this deeper piece of steel exist? Is there another workaround to this other than buying/installing a tow hitch?
This is what it looks like now:

This is what I've seen as the workaround and what I'm hoping isn't the only solution:

I certainly here that. Not that this validates anything because I didn't see it myself, but the guy I bought the truck from said he pulled a full sized landscape trailer with equipment from this setup. It does 'feel' very solid as it is. My trailer would haul my Wheel Horse lawn tractor or a single snowmobile. So a heck of a lot lighter than what the seller claimed he towed around.
A frame mounted hitch would definitely be the most solid just seeing if there are any other alternatives before going that route.
