check engine diagnostics

I have a 1998 Explorer 4wd and I was driving last night around 60mph and there was an interesting vibration. Soon therafter the 'check engine' light came on. For other vehicles in the past I have owned, there was a way to turn the ignition on-off, on-off, etc and the check engine light would blink diagnostic codes. I am trying to find out if Ford has this feature.

Dyno, your 98 has the OBD II diagonistics system, and it needs a code reader or a scanner for retrieving the codes. Auto mfgs changed from the older OBD I in 95.

Most parts stores will pull & clear OBD-II codes free now - call around.
