I have a Dana 44 open knuckle front axel in my truck, but all of the diagrams I have seen in my manuals and after a search online, have hubs that do not look like mine. Rather, they have a straight tube from the hub ending in the lockout. Mine have a tapered cap topped with the lockout:
The only number I have been able to find under the muck so far is C37070. Can you help me ID this axel? I am trying to find original Spicer lockouts and want to make sure I am looking for the right parts. TIA
don't quote me on it but I think those are just the over the counter replacements for the factory spicer two piece ones your talking about. looks like you have a dana 44 hd axle.

HIO I saw that article and the axel he sourced is the only other picture I saw of an axel that looked like mine and am inclined to believe that I have a std 44. However all of the lockouts I have seen seem to only be the front cap of the lockout or are shown on an axel with a "straight tube hub". What I have almost looks like some type of adaptor to use a smaller style lockout.
FWIW the hub appears to be 4.5" where it is protruding through the rim which tells me I have the large hub.. which is a HD axel?
The only way I am going to tell for sure I guess is to go down to the Solar and blow all the gunk off the front axel to see if I can find the BOM. My bet is the stamp is under the "ram assist"

The oem Spicers look like so...
Ok, so disregard the last post... As I was running out to take measurements looks like I now have my answer. Are the Spicer 2-piece for the HD still available? Or am I stuck with the Warn's? Off to Google I go.....
Thanks for the heads up, reps your way . Seems the Spicer models fetch a premium... Are the Warn's that bad in comparison?
IMO, and most others here, the oem Spicers are stronger than the Warn's....from a pure aesthetic point of view I prefer the retro and period correct look of the Spicers, but that's just a matter of personal taste.
The Spicers do fetch a premium, particularly on ebay, but can often times be had for a decent price if you can find them in the junkyard....but finding a good set that isn't beat up can be difficult.
Here's a few sets currently listed on ebay (all overpriced imo since they're used and not NOS)...
I found a set at the local swap meet this past spring, he wanted to 200 for the hubs alone, not NOS half decent shape. I was going to grab them if they were reasonable. Thought 200 was way too much.
I prefer the Spicer hubs too. I lucked out and found a set of the nos caps really cheap. were these hubs the same as the dana 60's but without the spacer?
