I have had this happen 4 times in the past 2 months. I will be driving down the road and i will come to a stop sign and when i stop and get ready to go again my truck just dies. Right in the middle of the road. Kinda scarry. Itook it by my dealer and he said he had never heard of that. My rough idle is creeping back again after they reflashed me about 2 months ago. Does any one know what the problems are?
No, nobody knows the answer to the cause of the problem(s) but it wouldn't surprise me to find that there are glitches in the "flashing" of the computers. We add a program (flash) to the IDM on the assembly line and when the flash is complete the computer says "IDM successfully programed." That information is then sent to the tracking system and the tracking system will say "IDM programed." But when the engine gets to Cold Test, it won't fire the injectors until we reprogram the IDM for a second time and, so far, nobody has been able to figure out why this happens occasionally. I believe there is a similar glitch occuring in these reflashes at Ford whereby the customer comes away complaining that it runs worse AFTER the reflash than it did before.
Joe that is interesting.......
I really don't know what kind of memory they use in the IDM???
I would assume a standard memory chip.. Before the new flash is put on the old one has to be removed. If parts of old flash are left it could be trying to overwrite, Causing some of the problems. Can you check with engineering to see if they can get a program to verify that the memory is clean before the new flash is loaded.
Another possibility.... Processor speed of the host computer? You never know what the techs are loading with.
The IDM is manufactured by Siemens and they send a tech to our plant with some sophisticated equipment that "reads" the IDM and, so far, he hasn't been able to figure it out yet.
If this is happening to us (the people who design and manufacture this stuff should be able to solve any problem you throw at them) it could be happening to Ford as well.
My truck had the same problem but I was traveling 65 mph down a mountain highway. They found 5 gal of diesel in the crack case because of a bad injector. I have had two more go out since.
