Ouch... Those should be roller lifters and if the dog bones held with the spider tray then I would be inclined to think they are ok. Perhaps another member can verify that.
They are rollers. I looked in the bore and it looked fine, still in the hole. I'm going to replace all push rods and install them ( the rockers) properly with the valves closed and torque them to 20ft-lbs this time. I should have done this in the first place. Live and learn I guess
Everything in the lifter galley should be fine, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to check. There is a slight (I emphasize slight) chance the pushrod could have jumped off and bent a tree. The pushrods woild have to be very bent, however, so unless you had some trouble getting a rod out I'd say this is not a possibility.
Don't use a torque wrench when you do it again, unless youre going to turn thre engine over to relieve spring pressure. Torque them down with a 3/8 drive wrench, paying close attention to the ones that need to compress the spring in order to seat the rocker. Once rocker is seated, give it the same "turn" the others got that weren't opposing spring pressure.
The torque wrench is not the answer in many applications, this is one of them. Glad you found it though.
The push rod was very slightly bent. Couldn't see it with the eye. Only rolling it across a flat surface could you see it. I am going to replace all of the push rods just for good measure just in case another one was drastically loose and bent any others. Could just be being paranoid here, but I don't want to do this a third time
Not being paranoid. Doing stuff once sucks. Doing stuff twice really really sucks, doing it a third time will make you want to push the truck down the street on fire.
Haha I know that feeling. My 89 in my sig was one of those trucks. Stuff just kept breaking on it. Finally threw in the towel after I had a knocking sound in gear that sounded like the bottom end rod knock. So I tore the cab and bed off for a new body and pulled the motor and trans for my 5- speed swap. Getting the frame blasted and putting it all back together. Found my noise after i pulled the motor from the trans. Just a cracked flexplate!
