I've got a 1998 4.0. I can't seem to get rid of a mid to high pitch whine. It think it only happens at idle. I say this because at 2-3000 RPM, I can no longer hear it. I'm not sure if it goes away, or if I just can't hear it over the engine noise.
At first look, it almost appears to be coming from the air filter box. If i put my hand on it, I can feel vibration, but I don't think the noise originates here. If I slightly separate the hose from the throttle body, it appears to be coming from inside the engine..
Any Ideas?
Someone told me it may be the idler pulley. I've replaced it to no avail. Also have cleaned the throttle body. Again to no avail.
