Road Trip!
As a veteran of "more than a few" roadtrips my advice is as follows"
1) Bring plenty of BEER MONEY
2) Bring some more BEER MONEY
....Oh, yeah some money for food and fuel might be good.
Seriously, have a fun but Have a safe trip! You guys have proven over and over again You have a very tough job and you do it very well! Thank You for your service to our country.
PS If I were you I'd change the oil and filter BEFORE the trip. If you do it yourself it will cost you very little.(find some national brand oil on sale 6 quarts@ $1.00 a quart + $ 3 somthiing for a motorcraft filter) Well worth it to protect your $3,000.00+ engine.
Bill
My Dad bought a new 1956 Ford wagon. The car was only a few weeks old when the timing chain broke in front of the house. Not sure exactly why, but oil started to leak. He put a mason jar under the leak to capture the oil. The oil was put away in the basement and only years later did we find the jar of oil. The bottom of the jar was filled with metal filings. Minute particles but so many that they covered the bottom of the jar. I never forgot that lesson.
I'm a believer in changing the oil for the first time way before it would normally be due. I think it's a good idea to get rid of any junk that may be left from machining and breaking in parts.
1. change it early to get rid of metal shavings, etc from manufacturing
2. DON'T change it early because the factory puts in a special oil for breaking in the engine, & you don't want to remove that oil ahead of time.
i've done it both ways, but regardless of which way i went, i always wondered if i should have done the other. actually, the wife just bought a new mitsu outlander, has almost 2,000 miles on it, & i'm debating this thing all over again. hope someone can add some insight.

P.S. Thanks for the support for the Military, we do what we love.
