DH 1973

I am just learning to use this site so bear with me. I inherited a F100 from my late Father who bought the truck new. It has never been garage kept and has had no engine work. I am going to have the motor rebuilt, a 360 ci and am making it into 390. also , want to change intake and carb but am having a hard time finding anything used. I am 65 years young and need to be as thrifty as possible. Appreciate any help or advice.

Sorry for your loss, keeping a 40yr old truck in the family from day one is a rare and special thing.

As for buying used parts on the cheap i'd recommend the usual suspects....Craigslist, Ebay, swap meets, local classifieds, salvage yards, fellow FTE members, etc.

I know you mentioned carb and intake but are you looking for other parts as well?

If you give us a parts list (the more specific the better) we can find you the cheapest price currently available on the new parts you want...

Montana, I would like an edelbrock performer and around a 650cfm carb. have had a little experience with chevy's but not fords. as for exhaust imay keep the system on the truck, headers would be nice, maybe later

Brand new an Edelbrock Performer rpm intake and 600cfm carb will set you back about $650-700!!

But if bought used, the same two pieces can typically be had for $250-300, a substantial savings.

I don't know what your time frame is like but if budget concerns are of utmost importance to you then being patient and seeking out good deals on used parts may be the best option.

You know DH, Ford Autolite carbs are darn nice carbs and when rebuilt they run with very little fuss forever and are fairly inexpensive. Of course you have to have it rebuilt.

Turbo - Who was the guy that rebuilt your carb or that helped you rebuild it(my memory is terrible)? Just thinking if DH has time or is interested possibly he could send his to your guy and have it gone through.

DH 1973 - Then again DH you may not be interested in that idea, just throwing it out there.

Thats kinda where I was going with that.
If DH could find a carb then do what I did and volunteer to help a local carb guy rebuild his own carb he might be able to get it done pretty cheap as well as learn a thing or two like I did.
Might cost him to much to send it here. And since he's not helping my guy he couldn't get the deal I got.
