Ever since I bought my truck, which was a few months ago, it's had an engine knock immediately on startup. It only lasts for a few seconds, and it goes away as soon as the oil pump starts to build up pressure.
I don't even know if this a problem or not, I'm just trying to see if this is normal behavior.
The truck is a '90 F-150 4.9L.
It also recently starting making noise in the transmission. It sounds just like water dripping rapidly into an empty sink at 3:30am and you have to get up and shut the water off or you'll go insane, but it goes away as soon as I put the put the clutch in. It's the Mazda 5-speed.
the engine knock you descibe is normal for these 4.9L's so don't worry about that, unless it starts getting worse.
As for the tranny, I"ve never heard of anyhting like that, if it were me I would change the tranny fluid, remember the M5OD 5spd uses ATF.
Actually, I think the noise started when I changed the fluid. I can't be entirely sure that it wasn't there before, though. I was thinking it might be the throwout bearing, but that's more of a wild guess than anything else, and likely to be wrong.
