Steering column conversion

I am interested in installing a tilt/teloscopic steering column in my '71 F250 4X4 w/ power steering. Which column is the nicest and easiest to install? I have a manual trans which should make it a bit easier. If you have pics let me know.

Sorry Greg, I forgot to answer this question when you asked earlier. I am in the process of converting mine to an auto- I looked and looked for a tilt column. Seems everybody wanted so much $ like around $250- I ended up just geting an auto column (since mine is currently manual) Got it off E-bay for $60 shipping included. Out of a '79 Bronco- I'm looking at it right now- looks like a direct bolt-in. I've heard that all will bolt in from 67-79

Greg,
The Bronco col. is essentially an F150 col., right. I was told that an F150 col. can't be used for the application you are talking about. Is this correct, or did I get bad info? I am gathering parts for an auto conversion as well as a PS conversion for my '71 F250 4x4.

The 78-79 columns themselves are the same with auto tranny.

The difference being how it hooks up at the end of the column.
The 4x4's have a knuckle shaft & rag joint.
The 2x4's just have a rag joint.

Thanks Mil1ion, I understand the difference in the 4x4 v. 2x4, that was not my question. My question was the difference between F250 and F150 (both 4x4).

Same thing !

F-100 to F350 <> one column for Auto's

F-100-F-350 <> same column for Std's

Just to be clear. If you mean an F150 as in after 1979 then it won't work. I'm not sure when they changed from F100 to F150 but I believe it was around that time. Steering column's from 65-79 are interchangeable. But 1980 and up the column would take more serious modification to work.

The previous owner (don't U just love those) had installed a mid 80's steering column in my truck, so are you guys saying that it will need some modifying to bring it back to the original style steering column.

Understood. I was only referring to the '67-'79 only. But F150s were around before 1979, I think they started in 1973???
