I have a 85 F250 with a 6.9. the glow plugs and wireing have been changed to the newer style. I got a new wiring harness from an other 85 with a 6.9. My ? is how do I wire the newer glow plug style from the older style?
I hope this makes sence. thanks Jeff
Did you get a complete harness with the glow plug controller and everything? And do you want it to work automatically or with a push button? The push button would be the easiest to wire in; all you'd need is a power wire from the button to the power on the controller and the rest just connects up like factory. If you want it to work automatically, I'd have to look up the wiring again. I had it once upon a time, and can't remember what I did with it. Probably lost in my computer somewhere. But if you look up the wiring for an 87, that will be exactly what you need. It's a 6.9 with the updated glow plug system.
If I understand you correctly you want to wire the newer style controller into the 6.9 harness I have never had to do one but there are several members on here who have. This diagram is for a 93 7.3. The 6.9 with the new style controller should be the same.
Also read the stickies at the top of the forum on both types of controller and do an advanced search in this forum for threads on changing the controller.
thanks for the help. the thing is the PO hacked the wiring so bad that I have know idea how the truck even ran. That's why I grabed the wiring from the truck at the junk yard. I am still unsure how to wire the glow plug system.
This is my first diesel by the way.
