I am looking a buying a new PSD. I looked at a 03,xlt,6-speed,FX4,Crew Cab. The salesmen wants 39000 for it including tt&l. Never bought a new truck I was just wondering what everyone else is paying for them. And i was wondering what kind of milage are you getting out a 6.0 with a 6-speed??
myst, paid 39225 w/tt&l 1st week of March (no rebate) for 03,Crew Cab, 4x4, 6.0, 6 spd, Lariat, 6 disc cd, elec shift on fly, tow and camper pkgs, and 3.73 posi. I special ordered back in late Oct and waited patiently. I think there is a 1500 rebate now? Started off at about 15.25 mpg, now getting 18.25 to 18.5 after 4500 miles. That's mostly highway but I do drive too fast. Hard to not drive this truck 80+ on the interstate. It needs a 7th gear, runs at about 2100 rpm at 70 and youv'e been in 6th (OD) since you hit 40-45. I find myself pulling on the stick for another shift all the time. I test drove an auto in Oct but don't recall the revs it was turning at it's shift points. It did shift nicely though.

I paid 38k on a sticker of $45k with no rebate. Dealers all over the place are taking anywhere from 7k to 9k off. A friend of mine bought one 2 weeks ago. Exactly same as mine and paid $36k
These are Lariats with everything but the moonroof. Really not a bad price for such a loaded awesome machine. Same rig in a one ton Chev is $52k
the 6 speeds are harder to find (they told me most likely special order in my town), so if they have the one with the options you want then negotiate the deal.... I lost one model that I wanted (it had just been sold), but got a similar one for $500 more... plus it was the rebate weekend so I got $1,500 off..... (I was looking for XLT 6.0 with auto trans, 3.73 LTD slip rear, tow and camper packages, and they had it)
Have you driven the 5spd auto? Man I can't imagine wanting a manual tranny ever again after driving my 5spd auto....
I am impressed as much by the Torqueshift as I am the power of the 6.0L. I can come down a 6% grade with a 10,000# load and never touch the brakes.

Sounds like I need to persuade "Leader" and his buddy to negotiate my next deal. When the 6.0 hit the showroom floor they were very proud around here (greater San Antonio). I had a Dec 02 lease expiration on another brand with an auto, really wanted a true crew cab and had convinced myself going back to a standard was best for me. At most of my dealership visits I felt as if it were not only an honor, but a privilege to get a response when asking about special ordering a 6 Spd. Didn't get the damn thing till early March so I had to walk for 2 months. I paid 6G off sticker (36,8?? before TT&L on a 42,770 tag) As I mentioned earlier in here, I drove the 6.0 in Oct with a TorqueShift but was really focused on the truck and 6.0, not the tranny. Honestly, after driving this thing for 3 months I think I made the wrong decision. I love shifting gears and have done it all of my driving life, but it's not a great set-up in this truck. From reading other threads it sounds like the lack of power and throttle response (at low rpm) with the 6 Spd may be a problem solved later than sooner. Frankly, it's annoying. You pretty much have to re-learn how to drive and mentally prepare yourself to be ready for anything out on the streets. The truck may go, and it might not. The "rough idle" thing is actually quite amusing. Idle ranges from perfect (as long as you can avoid putting ANY torque on the engine without giving it some juice), to rough, rough with varying degrees of knock and on up to pretty much violent shaking. It has run this way from day one. Try backing up to trailers, negotiating parking lots, etc, without getting the thing into an idleing "seizure". People look at you funny; you know they're thinking, "WOW, he paid for that!" Had the PCM reprogramming done and it ran like a different truck. I grinned from ear to ear.... for about 20 minutes. I'm waiting for a fix and am not taking it in until then. The other issue is the shifter travel...getting the damn thing in to R and Lo requires you to reposition yourself in the seat. After you smash your fingers into your knee a few times you'll remember.
Filled her up this evening..18.3 mpg. That really isn't what I expected after 4500 miles from a 6 Spd. 20 -21 at this point then on to 22-23 would be more like it. Had the other brand with a 5spd ('97) and consistnetly got 21-22. That thing could move a house as long as you had all day to move it, it couldn't move quick enough to get out of it's own way.
Drive that 6Spd awhile before you make the deal. Tell the sales guy you have some errands to run and you want to borrow it for the afternoon. Then drive it around town, parking, moving it, backing up to things, slow through the grocery store parking lot, etc. Then try the Torqueshift. If the 6 Spd isn't going to give us a significant mpg advantage, and the torquer pulls a trailer the way they say it does, I say go with convenience.

That is excellent advice. Many ford dealers will let you take the truck home and bring it back the next day... go drive it and make sure you want the 6 speed... (or wait till the '04's come in 3 mos).

Identical story here Greg. I have actually had to give it throttle ocassionally otherwise it slows me down too far. I agree the trans in this thing is really what makes it so special.

congrats... I know how ya feel about the manual trannys, my dad must be spinning in his grave knowing that I have an auto with power windows, no less! It sure is nice.....
